What is adolescent confidentiality?

At age 13, your teen will start talking with Dr. Moemeka alone. According to Texas state law, at this age your child is afforded doctor-patient confidentiality. This means that, unless your child is in immediate danger or at risk of hurting someone else, nothing that your child shares with Dr. Moemeka can be shared with you without your teen’s consent.

This law is intended to encourage your child to get the preventative healthcare she needs to stay healthy and talk about things that she may not be comfortable sharing when you are in the room.
